What it is

What drone insurance covers.

Here’s the surprise that catches most operators: standard business liability policies exclude aircraft — including yours. Drone coverage is its own stack.

You don’t need to know which lines you need. Tell us what you fly and who you fly for, and your broker builds the stack.

01UAS LiabilityThird-party injury and property damage from flight operations — the coverage client contracts mean when they ask for $1M. This is the policy that answers where your business GL’s aircraft exclusion walks away.
02Hull CoverageThe aircraft itself — crash, flyaway, and loss, priced by your actual rig. Deductibles and valuation matter more here than premium; we walk you through both.
03Payload & EquipmentSensors, cameras, lidar, and ground station gear — often worth more than the airframe carrying them. Scheduled properly so a hard landing doesn’t total your margin.
04Professional LiabilityWhen the deliverable is data — maps, inspections, survey outputs — errors in it carry their own exposure. E&O for operators whose clients build on what they capture.
05General LiabilityThe ground side of the business — client sites, offices, and everything that happens before takeoff. Written alongside UAS liability so the two meet without a gap.

Who needs it

Every kind of drone operation — priced differently.

Mapping & surveying

Data deliverables mean professional exposure alongside flight risk. Both lines, written together, priced by what clients do with your outputs.

Inspection work

Roofs, towers, and infrastructure — flights near structures for clients with vendor requirements. The COI usually matters as much as the coverage.

Photo & video

Events, real estate, and production work — flights over people and property, often on short notice. Coverage that matches how fast you book.

Agricultural & spray work

Application work adds chemical exposure most UAS forms exclude. Specialty ag-aviation markets write it — we place it with your applicator details on file.

Fleets & multi-pilot operations

Multiple aircraft, employed pilots, and scheduled equipment. Priced as an operation, not a hobby rig at a time.

Something in between?

Most operators fly a mix of work. Describe your missions in the form — that’s what your broker prices.

Insurance without the homework.

Common questions

Drone insurance, answered.

A client wants a $1M COI before I can fly. How fast can I get it?

Same day once you’re bound, self-serve after that. $1M UAS liability is the standard ask on commercial contracts — we build the certificate with the additional-insured wording the client’s vendor packet names.

How much does drone insurance cost?

Liability often starts around $500 a year for a solo operator; hull and payload coverage price by your actual rig and sensors. Annual policies usually beat per-flight pricing once you fly regularly — we compare both against your mission profile.

Doesn’t my business liability policy already cover my drone?

Almost certainly not — standard GL forms exclude aircraft of every size, and a drone is an aircraft. That exclusion is the single most common gap we find with drone operators. UAS liability is the policy that actually answers.

Do I need insurance to fly under Part 107?

The FAA doesn’t require it — your clients do. Most commercial contracts want $1M liability and a COI before you’re on site, which in practice makes coverage the ticket to paid work.

Is spray and agricultural work insurable?

Yes, but not on standard UAS forms — chemical application is its own exposure, written by specialty agricultural aviation markets. Tell us what you apply and your licensing; we place forms that include it.
